Dear SWCW Members:
Thank you to the 43 members who have already renewed for 2009. For those of you who have not yet renewed, I would
ask you to please take a moment to renew your membership today. Your continued support will allow the SWCW to
continue its work in fulfilling its mission to increase the awareness and understanding of women’s roles related to the Civil
War through education and scholarship.
Please remember that our memberships renew annually at the low rate of $25.00 per year. Members who wish to receive a
hard copy of the e-journal mailed to them, should add $10.00 to their membership renewal.
The 12th Conference on Women and the Civil War will be held in July 2010. We look forward to you joining us. The
Conference will be filled with tours, workshops and speakers, to say nothing about networking, fun and the experience of
meeting people on all academic and non-academic levels as well as from all over the country. Membership in the SWCW
does have its benefits; SWCW membership entitles you to a discounted rate on your registration for the conference; so,
what better time to become a new member or renew your membership.
We also offer a SWCW gift membership …
• Do you have a friend or relative that you want to share your interest in women’s efforts during the Civil War?
• Do you know someone who is researching a special Civil War related subject?
• Do you want to encourage a friend or family member to attend the Annual Conference?
• Do you know a college age person who would be interested in SWCW?
If you answered “yes” to any or all the above questions – then we have a gift membership for you. Look at the
membership forms on the SWCW website for details.
Finally, the SWCW must continue to grow as an organization and give our members what they are looking for in such an
organization.
Planning for future conferences including how the SWCW will participate in and plan our conferences around the
commemorations of the upcoming Sesquicentennial of the Civil War (2011-2015) is just one thing we must consider.
Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions with us. I may be reached via email at tdaley1861@aol.com (list SWCW in
the memo line).
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Respectfully,
Mary Louise Jesek Daley
SWCW Membership Director
