Brenda McKean
Brenda McKean is a retired nurse anesthetist. Her education is mainly in medicine, but for the last thirty years she has been a devoted
student and researcher of the Civil War period, giving lectures to various groups and school children.
She was once a recipient of the “Bonnie Blue Award,” given by district # SCV Camp to outstanding persons in the field of education
of Confederacy history. She has attended all of the SWCW conferences since 1997 and is now a regent for North Carolina.
Currently Brenda is a board member for Bennett Place State Historic Site Support Group. She has been a re-enactor for twenty-two
years. She was the Civilian Co-coordinator for the 125th Anniversary of the Battle of Bentonville. Her current project is about North
Carolina civilians during the War Between the States to be published as a book entitled “Blood and War at my Doorstep.”
